Conversations with Light

I’ve found in cyanotype the mediator I was searching for between painting and photography,
a space where I can explore materiality and embodiment while pursuing my fascination with fleeting, overlooked moments of light.
Light I find to be the most interesting subject
And cyanotype is nothing if not light itself. Working with it feels like stepping into a circle that never closes, an ongoing conversation with light
.
In this series, I invite that conversation with light, and thus, with time, with seasons, with place, with the present moment..
Sometimes I work under direct sunlight, sometimes indirect shadows.
I’ll make a mark, a brushstroke, a gesture and light responds.
The day, the weather, the season, the hour
they all decide the tone of its reply.
Sometimes bold,
sometimes subtle.
I answer back.
Sometimes I wait,
letting time in between,
giving space to cyanotype finish its frase
I’ll return days later,
add something new,
and keep going until the dialogue feels complete.
Now and then, I invite others into the exchange
perhaps water for fluidity,
or bleaching agents for lightness,
coffee or tea for deeper, more grounded tones.
And sometimes,
it’s only light and me.
